Launched in 2016, our new center for children’s services is a uniquely rich resource for children suffering from post-traumatic symptoms. Led by Naomi Ruhman, MSW, a leading expert on child abuse and family therapy, our center benefits from METIV’s wide-ranging expertise in trauma treatment, including our innovative research on trauma in children and families.
Our multidisciplinary team specializes in the treatment of severe dissociation and complex trauma in children, and includes child and adult psychologists, and clinical social workers. Our treatment modalities include art therapy, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, conventional psychotherapy, and DIRFloortime.
Our pediatric patients range in age from 2 years to 18 years old who have experienced trauma ranging from political violence to car accidents to physical and sexual abuse, and our services include individual therapy for both children and parents, family therapy, parent-child therapy, group therapy for parents, parent support groups, as well as training courses for therapeutic professionals.
Common post-traumatic symptoms in children include severe mood swings, behavioral problems at school or at home, angry outbursts, social/emotional withdrawal, school phobia, academic troubles, insomnia, and nightmares.
